After all, it is a Football...

5/31/08

Brazilian players and some of the Seattle Seahawks' players including Matt Hasselbeck, met up as the "Canarinhos" reckoned the pitch before they play Canada tonight at the Qwest Field. Apart from the jersey and pleasantries exchanged, was a moment of classic Brazilianism displayed by Robinho as he impressed the quarterback.

How Soccer Explains the World: An Unlikely Theory of Globalization

5/28/08

Let me kick off by saying: Great read!!
The book is by Franklin Foer, and in it, he makes an analisys on how the game itself can be seen as globalization and it's effects/results on many different cultures where it encounters corruption, racism, tribalism, nationalism and hooliganism. Don't be thrown off by all these "isms", he travelled the globe and met with many figures who give their own view and experience with the game and life. Among the topics, The Red Star Belgrade's supporters part in the Serbian nationalism is INSANE!! Berlusconi's and the Agnelli's influence over the Italian game and how Inter supporters cope with it... Chelsea's drastic change from working class to the posh style... The never ending corruption in the Brazilian league... Real Madrid x Barcelona's rivalry with focus during Franco's regime... And more including the USA, which he makes and ironic analisys in the end.
Definitely worth getting this!

The book can be found at Amazon with the "Search Inside" feature which allows you to take a peek.

England 2 x 0 USA

In it's best game since Capello took over, England defeated the US by 2x0. Goals by Terry(named captain) with a header from a DB cross and Stevie G sneaking thru the center like a forward, receiving a pass from Gareth Barry(on his first touch of the game) and again, like a forward with all the coolness in the World, touching it past Brad Guzan. Also, DB received a golden hat as an award for his 100th cap.
England seems to have improved quite a bit displaying entertaining 1 touch football and looking a lot more fluid than before.
It's just ironic that when England finally has proof to back up their claim that the Premier League is at the top of the European leagues, they fail to qualiy for such a major tourney that is the Euro. And while many will say that the BPL is ranked 1st because of the number of foreigners, if you count the number of English players on the pitch at the CL final, you'll have 10, both clubs within the big 4 that contain the biggest number of English man in their line up, and you could form a 1st team with Wes Brown, Terry, Ferdinand and Ca$hley Cole at the back. Lamps, Scholes, Hargreaves and Carrick in the middle with Rooney and Joe Cole up top. A bit unconventional, one might say, and Scholes has retired from the international scene and we're missing a goalkeeper... Ok, there are still quality players to pick from out of the other clubs such as David James, Steven Gerrard, Micheal Owen, Gareth Barry, Defoe, and yes.. even D. Becks... The depth isn't the greatest either, but you'd think that with a team like that, one should manage to go somewhere.... Catch the key words? "One should manage"... The more we analyze the situation, the stinkier Mclaren's performance with that team seems to get.

What A Legend: Johan Cruijff

If number 14 brings Thierry Henry to mind, then here's a chance to improve your knowledge of the game. To me and many others, the most graceful player to ever play the beautiful game! He is synonymous with Total Football as well as being known for perfecting a skill named The Cruyff Turn, the man was a center forward who would drop deep into his own area confusing his marker or move to the wing where he would cause havoc. Back then, this was unheard of... 'Cruyff(as spelled outside the Netherelands) was known for his technical ability, speed and acceleration, but his greatest quality was vision, based on an acute sense of his team-mates' positions as an attack unfolded. The sports writer David Miller believed Cruyff superior to any previous player in his ability to extract the most from others. He dubbed him "Pythagoras in boots" for the complexity and precision of his angled passes and wrote: "Few have been able to exact, both physically and mentally, such mesmeric control on a match from one penalty area to another."
He is rated by many to be in the same league as Pele and Maradona.

This is a dribbling compilation I found on youtube and it'll give you an idea of what I mean by graceful:

Know your game's history and educate yourself about the genius of Johan Cruyff such as achievements, stats and career history.

Speak of the devil... 'Almost is nothing' says Mourinho

5/25/08

Jose Mourinho has described Chelsea's season as 'really bad' and insists the London club's campaign could only be described as great by someone with 'the philosophy of a loser'.

The former Chelsea boss was speaking before his successor Avram Grant was sacked, but was critical of the 52-year-old Israeli's short stint in charge at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho, when asked if the season had been a good one as depicted by Grant, told The Observer: 'That depends on your philosophy of leadership.

'In my philosophy it was a very bad one because in football 'almost' means defeat and Chelsea almost won the Carling Cup, almost won the Champions League and almost won the Premier League. Almost is nothing.

New Music...

5/24/08

Usher's new album will be out May 27th and it's definitely hot. The album is more vocal than others and at the same time doesn't fall behind beat wise. Overall, it's lyrically more mature, so no money, cash, hoes songs... Definitely something you can listen to with your girl and if you don't have one, it'll get you closer to achieving that.
It's hard to point out the best songs as most of them are really good, but if I have to highlight a few, here they are:
Love In This Club - Who doesn't know this?
Moving Mountains
Best Thing - All I'm gonna say is: Jay-Z!!
Love In This Club Part 2 with Beyonce and Lil Wayne - Hot!
Anyway... It's good music people!

Monta Soccer: Introducing Real Street Style

Street brand with talent and quite a bit of style, I actually ordered the Flamengo Orrie Polo and it's a good looking piece. Talent wise, they sponsor Street Legends such as Vaantje, Djudju, Orry, Wasi, the Pinto bros and Zaid, not to mention their freestylers who are ridiculous with the ball. Edgar Davids is the man behind the scenes, and these guys have already been all over the World with a TV show called Street Legends, where they faced local opponents wherever they landed. From Amsterdam to London, all the way to Rio.
You can check them out here: Monta
More from them coming soon...

Robinho's Agent In London

5/22/08

The Blues may get a big gift after losing the CL final this past Wed. According to Spanish papers, the forward's agent, Wagner Ribeiro, is currently in London listening to offers. The price: £23 million. But apparently Chelski have got serious competition.
Even though they were the first ones to show interest, the papers say the Red Devils as well as the Gunners are on to him already. However, if Robinho ends up at Stamford Bridge, the move would benfit Barcelona who are interested in the signing of Malouda, who in turn has manifested about his desire to leave England.

AC Milan target Drogba, Eto'o and Adebayor

One of the four. They are all perfect,"said AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti.

"They are centre forwards with the characteristics needed to solve our problems. We need flexible forwards who can help the squad in defence too."

He also said to expect 6-7 new signings to AC Milan and he refused to comment on the possibility of Ronaldinho playing for AC MIlan.

"He's a great champion and Milan always looks at champions, but whether he's coming is not a question to ask me."

Ronaldo is leaving?

Looks like a missed PK and crying over it does not turn away the Spanish giants. Real Madrid says that Man U cant stop things if Ronaldo wants to leave.

This is getting more and more dramatic by the minute. Fergueson says he stays. Rooney warns him to stay. Ronaldo says he makes no promises. My guess is he stays.
Is there room at Real for him  anyway? How are you going to have Robben, Robinho, and Ronaldo on the pitch at the same time?

The "Special" Report

5/21/08

A lot of us are wondering where, oh where will "The Special One" end up? My guess says Inter Milan, since Mancini has already stated he's done with them.... Talks of Lampard becoming a Nerazzuri.... It's all too coincidental and he'll probably bring Drogba, Essien and Carvalho along. I've also heard Man City, Valencia, Bayern Munich... But his ego is too big for any of them. So wherever he goes, I just hope he does it soon... Who doesn't miss this guy??

Champions of Europe

Manchester United conquered Europe once again...
This time against Chelsea as the game finished 1 x 1, a scoreless overtime and 6 x 5 during PK shootout.
C. Ronaldo opened the score after 26 mins with a beautifuly placed header to the top corner completely stunning Peter Cech. The cross was delivered by Wes Brown after a nice little 1-2 with Scholes.
Chelski came back right before the break as Essien hit one from long range which was deflected by Man U's defense falling perfectly in the path of Lamps who then with his left, classly touched it over a beaten Van der Sar.
During PK's, Cristiano failed to convert his as well as Terry who hit the post. In the end Van der Sar came through saving Anelka's shot and winning his second CL trophy.
Looking forward to the Eurocup...

Euro '08: Limited Edition Nike Boots

Top secret info right here, I cant even show you the boots yet. But Nike has very limited edition versions of the Legend II, Laser II, and Vapor IV coming out for Euro 2008.

They retail for $25 more than normal, but come with a nice shoe bag (not the usual sackpack), a limited edition box (pictured), and some of the shoes are made out of a different material than usual. (Leather vapors perhaps?)
As I hear it, only 11 stores in the US got the rights to distribute them. I saw them yesterday and i think you guys are going to like them. They go on sale on June 8th. I'll try to post pics up before, so stay posted.
My guess is Cristiano, Ibra, Ruud and others will be rocking these during the tournament.
Soccer International is taking pre-orders so get on that list, 'cuz once they're gone...they're gone.

Why Not?

5/17/08

Spain's controversial manager Luis Aragonés omitted Raul from the Euro squad this Saturday. And unfairly so if you ask me, the man has been performing and should've been picked. Although Spain has an excellent squad and should be very dangerous, his experience will be certainly missed.
Check out the talent on this team:

Keepers: Iker Casillas (Real Madrid), Pepe Reina (Liverpool) and Andrés Palop (Sevilla).

Defenders: Raúl Albiol (Valencia), Álvaro Arbeloa (Liverpool), Joan Capdevila (Villarreal), Juanito (Betis), Carlos Marchena (Valencia), Fernando Navarro (Mallorca), Carlos Puyol (Barcelona) and Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid).

Midfielders: Xabi Alonso (Liverpool), Santiago Cazorla (Villarreal), Cesc Fabregas (Arsenal), Rúben de la Red (Getafe), Andrés Iniesta (Barcelona), Marcos Senna (Villarreal), David Silva (Valencia) and Xavi (Barcelona).

Forwards: Dani Güiza (Mallorca), Sergio García (Zaragoza), Fernando Torres (Liverpool) and David Villa (Valencia)

Transfer rumors

Chelsea's offer for Torres gets turned away
"Liverpool have rejected a huge £40million (US$78million) bid from Chelsea for striker Fernando Torres"

Seedorf will not play in Euro
"Netherlands midfielder Clarence Seedorf ruled himself out of next month's European Championship on Tuesday, criticizing coach Marco van Basten for not giving him room to fulfill his potential."

Sven-Goran Eriksson is reportedly lined up to become the next manager of the Mexican national side
"Reports on Spanish CNN suggest that the Manchester City boss has already agreed terms with the Latin American country and will be installed as the successor to Hugo Sanchez, after the legendary former striker was fired from the post in March."

Real Madrid wants Cristiano Ronaldo, but understands how difficult this could be.
"It's almost impossible, but not completely impossible because things can change between now and when the transfer window shuts."

"I'm at the right club, playing with the right players and I learn things all the time," Ronaldo told MUTV

Fabregas Interview

Arsenal's man answers your questions. Pretty entertaining interview.

How did you feel when you scored the late goal against AC Milan from so far out? Will you look to carry that momentum with you for Spain into the European Championship?

I hope I can repeat that feeling in the Euros and achieve something big with Spain. It was an incredible and unforgettable moment. I think I played one of the best games of my life against Milan. On top of that, I was lucky enough to score such an important goal for us.

At least he's willing to admit luck played a factor in it. Check out the interview here.

Check out Bumpy Pitch Apparel

I love soccer-inspired clothing. Check out bumpy pitch.

"Bumpy Pitch is a lifestyle apparel brand that is a reflection of our love for soccer and how it inspires our lives. We have a unique approach and one of a kind outlook towards the world’s greatest game. This is reflective in everything we do, and it can not be duplicated."

They feature t-shirts and hats made from premium materials with former american soccer team logos.  I like their designs, very trendy and very LA. Unfortunately along with LA style, comes an LA price tag.
I have no problem dropping coin on a great tshirt, but i know alot of people who do.
The brand is managed by former RSL player/Soccer Commentator Brian Dunseth. Dude's got style, he did one of my favorite goal celebrations when he scored RSLs first goal.

Man U Wins Premiership again

"Was there ever a doubt? United scored the most goals, conceded the least goals, won the most games and kept their nerve when it mattered. Sir Alex Ferguson has built a tea rival the treble winners of 1999 and I believe, much to my chagrin, that they have just got started. With the bookies already penciling in the Red Devils as next season's favorites, we can only hope that Sir Alex retires once he ties Liverpool for 18 league titles.
